About the Artist
I have always had a desire to
paint. When my last child was out of school I needed something to fill the
void, so I decided to pursue my dream of painting. In January 1975 I had
my first lessons from a local artist. From that day forward my easel has
seldom been empty. There is always a painting on my easel or in my head.
I first started in oils, then acrylics, and then watercolors. My Husband
and I opened a tole painted decorative wood business which we were successful in
for 15 years.
I have the love of God in my heart and when I look out I
can see the beauty in his creation; and if I can capture just a little of it
with my paint brush, I feel happy in my heart. I try to paint real scenes
from photographs my husband has made over the years. Also I enjoy getting
out and painting what I see in nature.
I have studied in seminars with Brenda Harris, Cecil Neal, Donny Fendley, Wayne
Spradley, Robert Warren, Tony Couch, and Don Rankin. I am also scheduled
for a 4 day seminar with Dorothy Dent.
I now have 20 students in my studio class at home on
Tuesday and Thursday mornings. I also occasionally have a one day workshop
on Saturday. I thoroughly enjoy taking a new teenager and seeing them progress
until they can copy my work. Some have been with me for 2 years. Several of my
former and current students have won 1st places at local juried shows.
