| About the Artist I have been painting for about 15 years. I am a self-taught artist who has taken numerous classes and seminars with some of the greatest artists in the country. I became a certified instructor with the Alexander Art Corp in the 90’s. I stayed with this nationwide group, and the changes in the company sponsors, until the present. I am at the Silver Level for oils. After doing only oil painting for some time, I then began to paint in acrylic, watercolor and pastel. Each new medium is a learning experience and challenge. I enjoy being able to create artwork in whatever medium I desire and also love to combine them. In 2002, I opened Prairie Springs Studio of Art. I teach primarily in oil or acrylic to classes of 1 - 12. My hours are flexible and classes can be scheduled by appointment. I love teaching beginners the most. To be able to generate excitement and satisfaction about painting to a beginner is more rewarding than many things in life. I actively promote the visual arts in my community by volunteering on various committees and exhibiting my works. I am the past Events Coordinator of the Horse Barn Arts Center (2 years), the current treasurer of the Sioux Falls Artists League and publisher of the monthly newsletter for the Artists League. I am the co-creator of the annual High School Art Exhibit that is at the Horse Barn Arts Center. This is an event that allows high school students to create and exhibit their works in a professional setting. I am a past nominee to the Mayors Awards for the Arts for 2001, a local event that honors people and organizations for their outstanding efforts to promote the arts. I love to go fishing on the Sioux River and always have my camera with me. I have created many wonderful landscapes of the places I have been when fishing. I highly suggest this “therapy” to those that also have busy lives.
