| About the Artist
As
a child, I was always drawing and often got into trouble at school for sketching
portraits of fellow classmates when I perhaps should have been paying more
attention to the teachers! Despite all my interest, my parents would not let me
pursue art classes in high school, a great disappointment to me. Years later I
took some tole painting classes but found them boring and unimaginative.
It would be almost twenty years before I picked up a paintbrush again,
this time at the urging of my best friend and mentor, Betty McCullough. Just two
months later I signed up for a seminar with Bob Pennycook. Once I got over my
nerves, the experience was great. I am still very proud of the piece I painted
that day. I have never looked back! Since then I have taken seminars with Nadean
Masters, Moe Shier, Patti Norrish, Sandra MacDonald, Gladys Neilson, Betty
Allen, Brenda Harris, Kathi Sojka, Mark Polomchak and Karolyn Hawthorne as well
as many other wonderful teachers.
Every chance I get I can be found in my home studio “playing” with
brushes and canvas. I thank the Lord for bringing people across my path who have
guided me on my journey thus far. I want so much to pass on the joy of painting
to others, as those before me have done, and I hope to be painting for a long,
long time.
Danny Kaye once said, “Life is a great big canvas and you should throw
all the paint on it you can.” I’m going to give it my best effort!
