About the Artist

Marie Merritt CDA, TDA, an East Tennessee native, discovered decorative painting in 1991. Five years later, she started teaching this new found love. Her fun and relaxing classes include instruction in theory, portraiture and concepts of design. They are structured to enable the student to complete a project in each class.

Marie has refined her signature style through experimentation, education, and practice. Her love of God constantly guides her quest to find new beauty in the world around her and to translate that into designs to share with decorative artists worldwide. Inspiration for her floral, wild life and portrait designs comes from God's creation and family heirlooms.

She is an active member of the Society of Decorative Painters and in Artists United. She earned her Teacher of  Decorative Arts (TDA) in 2002, her Certified Decorative Artists (CDA) in 2003 and is a Charter Certified Instructor for Genesis Artists Colors and a graduate of the University of Tennessee.

Marie teaches at SDP, HOOT, and NET conventions in addition to local and national seminars and workshops.
