| About the Artist My name is Pamela Mendel and my interest in drawing, painting, arts & crafts began at childhood. I was inspired by my father's artistic abilities. I always took great interest in art classes in school. I studied the arts for all four years of high school and also took some art courses at the county college. I had an accident at home, which caused extensive burns to my right hand. wrist and arm. My desire to be an artist gave me the strength and also the therapy I needed to get through this ordeal. I was inspired by Bill Alexander's "Wet on Wet" technique. My enthusiasm was so great that I was certified as an ACI, Alexander Certified Instructor in 1993. Since then I was certified as an instructor with Koh-I-Nor and then with ColArt. I have been teaching at various art & craft stores, giving adult & children classes for the past 8 years. My subject include floral, landscapes, still live, seascapes and portraits. I basically teach using oil and acrylic mediums, but I also use watercolor, charcoal, colored pencils, glass and tile and the list goes on! I have also done many demonstrations in various art stores using assorted mediums for companies such as Alexander Art, Sanford, Grumbacher, Koh-I-Nor, Winsor Newton and ColArt. I live in Sussex County, New Jersey where the rolling mountains, farms, lakes and streams are a natural habitat for an artist, "a brisk fall day, an easel, a canvas and some paints" equals seventh heaven. |
