| About the Artist
Kimberlee McPeek of "PenWorks" possesses the magical touch of
the pen. With each illuminated stroke of her pen the essence of her subjects
blossoms to life. Pencilized Portraits, illuminated manuscript scrolls, animals,
landscapes, buildings, commercial scenes, tattoo drawings all shimmer with her
talent. This essence is shared with those around her who wish to discover the
thrill of Pen and Ink. Some of those pieces also share the brushwork coloring of
Grumbacher Transparent Watercolor, the "metallics" of the acrylics, and the
smooth strokes of ArtistsColors liquid colored inks.
Kimberlee currently lives in Virginia Beach, VA with her husband, Charles and
their blended family of five kids. Nicole (16); Victoria (15); Travis (14);
Elizabeth (10); and Jeffery (8) plus two feline children: Angel and Charlie.
Kimberlee's husband is in the military and transfers from time to time around
the country, which gives Kimberlee fresh material to paint/draw/create from.
Charles is also an Alaskan resident, so when retirement comes soon, both
Kimberlee and her knight will retire to Wasilla, Alaska -The Last Frontier.
THE ARTIST'S HOBBIES/INTERESTS ARE SHARED
WITH OTHERS
Kimberlee is a member of SCA - "Society for Creative Anachronism" which re-enact
the Middle Ages from the 17th century and back (Kimberlee's SCA name is "Lady
Fionna"). A part of her excitement in this endeavor stems from being a "scribe"
just like the monks of old, whose job it was to lovingly create illuminated
manuscripts to record history and to illustrate the Bible stories. Kimberlee,
through Gouche watercolors, pen and ink, and her computer assist other kingdom
scribes to create beautiful "award scrolls" to show honour, courage, and victory
for "battle on the field" during SCA events. These Illuminated Scrolls are
framed and displayed in private homes all over the Southeast. The different
kingdom scribes plus aspiring scribes gather together to share ideas,
talents/gifts, paints and history of period lettering, how inks and paints were
made, plus ways to create Celtic knotwork, etc.
INSPIRATIONS IN LIFE
Kimberlee's inspirations come from
the influence that her mother has encouraged through the years, as well as the
accomplishments witnessed for all the art classes, workshops, seminars and
personal commissioned pieces Karen Taul has done. Having a mentor is an
important source for inspirations, and Karen ranks at the top of Kimberlee's
list, on that list is Tony Carchia, Claudia Nice, Brenda Harris, Jerry Yarnell,
plus many many students who taught her along the way.
