| About the Artist
Artist Judy Leasure moved to Franklin, PA, in February of 2006 with her husband,
Charles, where they share their home with two lively Lakeland Terriers named
Windy and Ben. Since her arrival, she has
actively participated in the arts community in Venango County and nearby
surroundings.
Judy began painting in watercolor 12 years ago and has
studied with a number of teachers including nationally recognized watercolor
artist Kathie George. She has also studied with nationally recognized oil
painter Ann Kingslan and acrylic artist Ros Stallcup. Judy has exhibited at the
Apple and Cheese Festival in Canton, PA, the Oil Heritage Art Show in Oil City,
PA, and has had works selected for the Annual Juried Art Show at the Gmeiner Art
and Cultural Center in Wellsboro, PA, and a juried miniature show in
Chambersburg, PA. Before moving to Franklin, she taught painting classes at
Michael’s Arts and Crafts in Big Flats, NY, the Phoenix Program at Corning
Community College in Corning, NY, and in the non-credit program at the
Pennsylvania College of Technology in Wellsboro, PA. In 2004, she staged a
two-woman show with another artist at the Coates Heritage House Museum in
Elkland, PA. She is currently teaching at her home studio, at Pat Catan’s in
Hermitage, PA, and in the non-credit program at Clarion University-Venango
Campus in Oil City. She teaches classes at the Town and Country Decorative
Painters regular meetings and annual retreat, the Buckeye Tole Painters annual
retreat, and MAD (Mid-Atlantic Decorative Painting Conference).
In May of 2005, the Society of Decorative Painters granted
Judy the designation of Teacher of Decorative Art (TDA). To receive this
designation, an artist/teacher must pass a written exam and then document 100
hours of teaching and submit a videotape of a class for evaluation.
Her work includes paintings in watercolor, colored pencil,
oil, and pastel, and painted decorative objects using acrylic paints. The
subjects of these works are primarily still life and floral designs. Her
classes include watercolor, colored pencil, pastel, and decorative painting on
objects using acrylic paints. She offers custom pet portraits and other
commission work.
