Marianne Poole Keefe
Marianne Keefe earned her B.A. degree from Barrington College in Rhode Island,
and did her graduate work at the State University of New York in Oneonta and
Bridgewater State College in Massachusetts. She taught elementary school full
time and as a substitute teacher for 16 years. After moving back to
Massachusetts from New York, she worked as an office manager for the Mass.
Laborers' Pension Fund for another 16 years.
Since taking an early retirement, Marianne now spends half of each year on ten
acres in N. Fort Myers, Florida, and the other half in West Fulton, in upstate
New York, where she has a painting studio, built for her by her husband, Joe, on
their 25 isolated, hilly, mostly wooded acres. Their nearest neighbor is a mile
away.
Marianne has always loved making art, since winning second place in a "Be Kind
to Animals" contest in second grade. During her adult working years, she took
several continuing education art classes which sustained her interest. However,
when she walked into a craft store and saw Lisa Grinter teaching an art class,
she knew that was what she wanted to do...paint!
A certified instructor in both oils and acrylics, since 1992 she has taught both
in her own studio and at a resort park as well as other places. Since that
time, she has been active in her local art league in Fort Myers, holding various
offices, including that of president. She has won many awards, including First
Place, Second Place and Honorable Mention for her original artwork.
Marianne has studied with many well-known artists and has been a member of the
group of artists now known as TEAM since the early 1990's, and has attended
numerous National and Regional conferences.
Many of her paintings have been sold through an agreement with local New York
restaurants. She also has painted many commissioned portraits.
