Since Kitty Gorrell first picked up a paint brush as a young adult, her creative drive has taken her from a determined
beginner to an active painter, teacher and promoter in the field of
art. Kitty
believes that painting is a technique as much as a talent and it can
be learned by anyone with the desire to paint and the willingness to
practice and learn. She has studied drawing, painting and design both
privately and at seminars throughout the country. Her preferred
medium is oils, but she also paints in watercolors and acrylics.
She has achieved Instructor Certification from Alexander Art, Koh-I-Nor/Grumbacher,
and as a Gold Level Instructor with Winsor & Newton/ColArt Americas.
Today, Kitty works as an Independent Artist, Instructor, Exhibitor and
Arts Program Presenter!
Kitty has been described by art educators and by her students as “a
very competent instructor as well as a talented artist.” Also “her
attitude and personality are always of a positive nature, instruction
is detailed and assistance is given to each student.” Paintings
completed in her classes and seminars are achieved with her
easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions. She teaches a wide variety
of subjects and her enthusiasm and love for painting makes her a
popular teacher. Her students look forward to each new challenge.
Kitty Gorrell teaches a full range
of classes as well as workshops throughout the country
at conventions, special events and private studios and classrooms.
Classes can be arranged for as few as 12 students or as many as 36. A
Pattern Packet, which includes instructions, line drawing and color
photograph, is provided to each student. It can be arranged for
paints to be provided at the host location’s request. Kitty also
organizes and hosts “Homecoming Hues, A Painting Retreat”, which is
held each September in central West Virginia.
Kitty is a business member of the Society of Decorative Painters, a
charter member and advisor of T.E.A.M. (Teachers & Educators of Art
Materials), and co-founder of the Creel Foundation, a non profit
organization for the arts in West Virginia.
