Helen is a certified instructor with Koh-I-Noor/Grumbacher/Col
Art Americas, Alexander Art and Winsor Newton.
Helen has more than 30 years of teaching experience in
Europe, New York State, Hawaii, and Florida. She studied in oils with Herr
Schwarz, Meisenbach, Germany, James Chichester of Panama City, Florida and
Bennett Bradbury, California; Plein-Air with Este Rayle of North Carolina;
Portraiture with Valerie Stewart, California and Fuller Brown, Pensacola,
Florida; wildlife art with National Wildlife Artist, Fred W. Wetzel,
Pennsylvania; acrylics with Brenda Harris and Milton Lenoir; also, Joseph Dowson
while living in Hawaii; drawing with Greg Albert, Author/Artist.
Helen is an award winning artist and continues to
participate in art and gallery shows. She has done commission work for friends
and clients throughout the Continental US, Hawaii, and Europe, including a pen
and ink drawing on the bulletin for the dedication ceremony of the new Hickam
Air Force Base Chapel, Hawaii, pen and ink renderings of the Old Base Chapel,
Plattsburgh Air Force Base, New York for the Officers’ Wives’ Club Board
Members, as well as stationary for their College Scholarship program. Helen has
promoted Grumbacher products in Oils, Acrylics, Pen and Ink, Watercolor, and
Pastels at the Military Base Exchange at Eglin Air Force Base and Tyndall Air
Force Base, Florida. While accompanying her husband as a military wife, Helen
has gained a wealth of knowledge on many painting subjects to share with
everyone, students and clients.
Helen teachs elementary school students about the Old Masters. They do pastels,
watercolor and drawing in the class after discussion on the artist. During the
summer she teaches the "Kids Art Camp" week for our local art group and do a class
with the “Gotta’ have Art” program for adults put on by the same group.
Helen continues to do portrait commissions in oils –
landscapes in oils and acrylics. Her art is on display at Gallery 331, DeFuniak
Springs, Florida in addition to other local areas. She teaches art at the Center
for Lifelong Learning, University of West Florida, Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
