| About the Artist
Although Kay Bishop’s artistic talent
earned her a scholarship to the Art Institute of Chicago, she chose the path of marriage and
family instead. But now, having successfully completed raising her six children,
Kay has finally turned her full attention back to art, her first love.
While growing up in the Midwest, Kay
was always drawing on her school books or anything she could get her hands on,
and her fervor for creating works of art hasn’t diminished over the years. This
talented self-taught artist now works daily out of a studio/gallery she opened
to the public several years ago on the Florida waterfront, an environment that
affords her the opportunity to work in a peaceful and inspiring setting, while
allowing the public in to see a working artist toiling at her craft, therefore
becoming part of the creative process.
In addition to working and greeting
visitors at her studio, Kay teaches private lessons and art classes ranging from
basic drawing to the more complex watercolor, pastel, and oil painting.
“She has the ability to bring out the
best in everything she comes in contact with. Her art is more than canvas and
paint—if is part of her heart and her life.”
Kay’s continuous travels and
observations keep fresh ideas flowing for her students as well as for her own
paintings. Her limitless imagination is evident in the variety and versatility
of her subject matter. She exhibits an ability to evoke a mood, a recollection
of bygone times, or a feeling of joy. Kay is equally adept at figurative work,
still life, portraiture, wildlife and landscapes.
With its bold use of stroke and
color, Kay’s artwork has become some of the most sought after imagery in both
public and private collections throughout the United States, and she has
received numerous first place and best of show awards in juried competitions.
