| About the Artist
I started painting tee shirts in 1990, my first dabble into art. When I was in
the hospital in 1991, I happened to see Joan Darflinger do this wonderful
painting on PBS in just 26 minutes. I was very impressed. Upon my release from
the hospital, I picked up the newspaper and there was Carolyn Vandeventer’s ad
for William Alexander’s wet-on-wet oil painting classes. I took my first class
and I was hooked, I have been painting with her ever since.
I have also studied with Brenda Harris, Este Rayle, Lowell
Spears, Robert Warren, Valerie Stewart, Sharon Ross, Carol Hoffman, Rita Huscher, Ruth Stewart and Sidney Wildsmith and Barbara
Pasco. I am self taught in pen and ink with the help of Claudia Nice’s books and
pamphlets, I am also self taught in colored pencil.
I began teaching in 2001 with the encouragement of Carolyn
Vandeventer, Brenda Harris, and Este Rayle. I find teaching to be one of the
most rewarding experiences, just to see the look on a student’s face when they
realize that they have created a beautiful picture by the end of the class. I
paint in oil, pen and ink, colored pencil, some watercolor, and some acrylic. I
teach pen and ink, colored pencil and oil.
